 Bill
Southward is an innovative consultant with strong interpersonal,
leadership and technical skills who has implemented business improvements
in a wide variety of manufacturing environments. More than 20 years
experience in Manufacturing Engineer and Quality Assurance in a
variety of industries including Aerospace, Machine Tool and Automotive
give him a background that can bring strength to virtually any business.
He has teamed with the leadership of over one hundred facilities
worldwide in implementing improvement initiatives that resulted
in measurable improvements in business both large and small. Examples
of some of his past projects include:
- Leading a team responsible for recovering production levels
at a construction machinery plant from less than 1 unit per day
to 2+ units per day, saving a loss in sales and competitive position
worth over $100 mm.
- Working with a division President to identify process constraints
and develop plans to address needed improvements. Plant teams
then improved performance on targeted products to 95% daily schedule
attainment. Manufacturing cycle time was reduced from 3 days to
1 day and order entry cycle time from 12 days to 3 days.
- Implementation of a Lean assembly process in a build to order
pump manufacturer improved on time performance 80+%, reduced inventory
by 25% and manufacturing defects fell 28%.
- Managing a technology exchange relationship between a parent
company and a Japanese joint venture leading to the implementation
of advanced grinding and finishing processes.
- Leading an international team in developing project plans,
financial projections and implementation strategy for manufacturing
portion of a South American business expansion.
- Developing training and implementation strategy for Lean manufacturing
teams in Germany, England and Italy
Prior to his becoming a consultant Bill was Manager of Strategic
Manufacturing Planning for a Fortune 500 company and a member of
their internal process improvement team.
Bill has an Associates Degree in Manufacturing Technology and extensive
training in the latest Lean and Six Sigma techniques.
